The old chapel's bell still hung, cracked and silent, a relic of a forgotten faith. I entered looking for supplies, but found candles lit on the altar, their flames swaying without breeze. Then I heard it—a rasping voice, quoting scripture in broken verses.

From the shadows shuffled a ghoul, skin like burned parchment, eyes glowing faintly. It held a ruined Bible close to its chest, whispering prayers to pews filled with skeletons. When it saw me, it smiled, teeth jagged and bloodstained, and beckoned me forward.

I fired once. The echo rang like a hymn. The ghoul collapsed between pews, its book falling open to the words: 'And the dead shall rise again.'
